"In Jefferson’s accounting, the king had undermined the rule of law, the common good, the judicial system and the political process...
What was shocking then is an almost daily occurrence now"
✏️ Stacy Schiff
"At the end of his inventory of abuses and usurpations, Jefferson slips in a zinger: 'A prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.'" www.nytimes.com/2026/05/02/o...

The Declaration of Indepence vs Donald Trump is a clean sweep. The only truth this article sees as self-evident involves Trump's gutting the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts and making the next offshore oil spill inevitable.

King Charles reminds of us of shared Enlightenment ideals

Good opinion piece. Many of the grievances against King George III in the Declaration of Independence could have been written for dear GOP leader and his current 🤡 car administration (probably would have if Jefferson and his peers were alive today)

Definitely worth a read:
“A prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”

From a European perspective, an interesting read.
Stacy Schiff uses the Declaration of Independence as an analytical framework for contemporary executive power.

As an avid student of the American Revolution I frequently discuss with others how Trump betrays the ideals that our Nation was Founded on. I'm glad to see that point here.
Thomas Jefferson, “A prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”

“For many who read the litany today, the resonance is unmistakable. So if you really want to know what the founders would say, you might do worse than review a selection of our founding 27 grievances.”
