This story is wild: βThey tried to catch a predator. They trapped themselves instead. What happened when livestreaming vigilantes ambushed an innocent man.β

For some reason all I'm reading today are the world's most horrifying stories about the internet: www.nytimes.com/2026/06/10/t...
Cops posed for photos with an infamous prankster making "catch a pred" videos before arresting a 25-year-old man caught in his sting. But the man was innocent, having never actually received any messages from the decoy claiming she was underage.
The cops arrested an innocent man based on the word of an influencer: βOne of the officers recognized Vitaly and shook his handβ¦ their actions were captured on camera. Before driving away with Akash handcuffed in the back of their vehicle, the officers asked for a photo with the infamous prankster.β
surely there has to be liability and consequences for putting people through this: www.nytimes.com/2026/06/10/t... βMy team and I mistakenly portrayed Akash Singhania as a child predator,β he wrote. yet "[Singhania] said he continued to get harassing messages, and prank calls to his personal phone"

Kick is fueling a monetization model built on vigilante public humiliation. Livestreamer Vitaly Zdorovetskiy wrongly accused a 25-year-old startup founder of being a predator, driving over 24k concurrent viewers to dox the innocent man and kicking off a harassment campaign.

"Predator catching" was never about justice. It's a clip farm funneling rage-bait to a gambling site. The morality is the marketing. Innocence draws a bigger crowd, which was always the product.
