Counterpoint: @tomsteyerhq.bsky.social spent political and actual capital to speak up for trans people, especially youth, in a full-voiced manner without apology. So that’s a plus. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/o...
He Spent $558 Million. What a Waste. He should have asked me, although all I have done is almost 50 years in the past, his NEGATIVE ADS did him in. Awesome advising in my 20's, @tomsteyerhq.bsky.social should have called me www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/o...

Many billionaires, after blowing $342 million on a failed presidential run in 2020, would abandon the idea of trying to buy themselves a high-profile political office for which they were unqualified. Not Tom Steyer. He has now spent more than $500 million in failed campaigns.

As someone who just ran a Congressional race (and am not advancing thank you very much), I can state with absolute certainty that large amounts of $$ have no place in politics. It warps decision-making, common sense, and service to the voters. I would have voted to overturn Citizens United on Day 1.
Tom Steyer wasted a hostoric amount of money running for CA governor, which could have better been spent on any number of worthy charities www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/o...
@tomsteyerhq.bsky.social Free article. Agreed: Either invest in a healthier society, or the wealth should be taxed at a much higher rate. As in, 50% with no exemptions.

"Support groups focused on safeguarding the integrity of elections"
A rather harsh but interesting critique of Tom Steyer's gubernatorial campaign.

He Spent $558 Million. What a Waste. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/o... I find it ironic that if he had followed Ms. Cottle advice, he likely would have had performed better in the election. Such misplaced priorities!
I couldn't agree more... the way billionaires blow their wealth to inflate their own egos is a true obscenity. FREE TO READ. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/o...
I’d like to think we’ve seen the last of this kind of nonsense but … www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/o...

It was a HUGE waste! Just think how much good $558million could do for PEOPLE! But Power is more important to him... www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/o...
Imagine if @tomsteyerhq.bsky.social had contribute $200m to grassroots candidates and movement building organizations instead of trying to buy the California governor primary… not to mention his failed presidential bid. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/o...
I’m proud of my state for ultimately denying him his vanity project. “Billionaires are more or less free to spend their money however they like. But surely all this money could have been better spent on …anything else to help Mr. Steyer’s fellow Americans.” www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/o...
"Billionaires are more or less free to spend their money however they like. But surely all this money could have been better spent on something — anything — else to help Mr. Steyer’s fellow Americans." - Michelle Cottle

He Spent $558 Million. What a Waste. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/o... Why don't gazillionaires use their powers for good instead? They would make a bigger impact and they would be beloved.
