Self-described "leftists" in France and Spain are not just boycotting the film. They are blacklisting the filmmaker. Because he is an Israeli Jew who lives in France. That's just like what the Vichy French did.

FWIW, I've always liked his work... "Given that [Nadav] Lapid believes in boycotting Israel, the boycott of *him* has elicited a smug satisfaction in some quarters. After all, Israel's partisans often claim that the country is hated not for what it does, but for its essential identity."

I've seen and admired the previous two Nadav Lapid films and have come *this close* to buying the Blu-rays during Kino Lorber's periodic sales, mainly to learn more about him through the extras on the discs. Alas, I missed YES! when it played theatrically (very briefly, if I recall).
Two issues that show how useless it is to divide the world into right (=conservative) and left (=for change). Nationalism isn’t inherently change or anti-change. New technologies are inherently change, but may be against the values…🧵 www.nytimes.com/2026/06/12/o... www.nytimes.com/2026/06/12/o...

take the headline with a grain of salt but read the article. That "some" in 'some leftists' is doing a lot of work. Nadav Lapid's Yes (2025) sounds very interesting. I would like to give it a watch. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/12/o...

I definitely want to see this. The particular "left" ideological strain that would call for a boycott is standpoint theory. It is illogical and ultimately reactionary, substituting ethnicity (identity) for reason and empathy. Not my left. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/12/o...
