a clarion call against the brutal efficiency of factory farming from @ezraklein.bsky.social one silver lining of the Save Our Bacon Act is that it's exposing the meat industry's tactics in real time www.nytimes.com/2026/06/14/o...
From the article..."A 2022 Data for Progress poll found that 83 percent of Democrats and 77 percent of Republicans considered preventing cruelty to farm animals a matter of moral concern to them personally." And yet most conveniently look away at mealtime. An important read about our immorality.
If you wouldn't subject your cat or dog to the horrors of the life of a factory raised animal, why do you think any other animal deserves this miserable existence? Explore this gift article from The New York Times. You can read it for free without a subscription. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/14/o...

I genuinely don’t understand the difference between “efficiency” and “abundance” in this Ezra Klein op Ed. Like, someone who didn’t care as much about animals as Klein could write an article saying, “all this terrible red tape in California is making our bacon too costly.”

GIFT OP-ED Big Ag and their captive Republican Senators and Representatives are attempting to reduce some food prices by increasing or preserving animal cruelty practices. PLEASE DON'T LET THEM DO IT! www.nytimes.com/2026/06/14/o...
@ezraklein.bsky.social’s NYT piece about agricultural efficiency and the Save Our Bacon Act cites CLF research. Multiple CLF surveys have found most Americans want stronger oversight of confined animal feeding operations and many support a ban on new ones. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/14/o...

What the Cult of Efficiency Costs Us www.nytimes.com/2026/06/14/o... Each pig is an unique individual with inherent dignity and value, preferences, attachments and relationships. The pork industry gives a bad name to swine.
My @nytopinion colleague @ezraklein on how an obsession with efficiency can cost us our humanity — in this case, in how we (mis)treat pigs on factory farms, and how some in Congress aim to make this trade off worse. Original post
@ezraklein.bsky.social looks to @chrismurphyct.bsky.social’s Wesleyan U. commencement speech to explore the cost of efficiency: “You didn’t design this world. You didn’t choose it. But you will live with the consequences of this cult of efficiency. And you will have to choose which side you are on.”

Gift Article: It features row upon row of sows penned between bars so narrow they cannot turn around. It is no way for any animal to live, particularly not one as smart and as social as a pig.

www.nytimes.com/2026/06/14/o... Klein doesn’t seem to understand that this has been going on for decades. Efficiency is a euphemism for profit here. Continuous improvement morphed into cost cutting to increase profits. Its the mechanism for the enshitification of the entire country.

What neoliberalism wrought: world that prizes efficiency and the annihilation of drift and friction above all else" but "Efficient for whom?" Mainly "at making a profit", not how workers are treated, social value of the product, or impact on the community www.nytimes.com/2026/06/14/o...
100%! Efficiency is not next to godliness. Max efficiency is a capitalist impulse that needs to be managed. Setting reasonable guardrails vs animal cruelty should be encouraged not systematically banned as a lobbyist law before Congress wants to achieve. gift article www.nytimes.com/2026/06/14/o...

What’s the difference between “efficiency” and “abundance”?
“That pig is an individual. Breeding sows are an abstraction. We can relate to individuals; we feel powerless before systems. And systems fight to keep us that way.” Klein provides great insight into not just the cruelty of the meat industry, but how it is a reflection of our broken culture.

Humans simply need to open their eyes for the way you treat your "meat". Horrible! At same time meat eaters glorify their pets! 🤮 www.nytimes.com/2026/06/14/o...
