The mifespristone case shows that the abortion federalism promised by Dobbs was a lie—the goal is to ban abortion everywhere, even if that means forcing pro choice states like New York to enforce abortion bans passed by anti-choice states. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Anti abortion activists said “leaving abortion to the states” would alleviate partisan rancor and get the justices out of the “abortion umpire business.” Now they’re demanding the courts force pro choice states to help enforce abortion bans. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Typically fine @adamserwer.bsky.social column in which he compares current intra-state fights about abortion access to antebellum fights over slavery.

Louisiana's case against the FDA would affect access to the abortion drug mifepristone nationwide—and “whatever happens next, the legal battle reveals that the paradise of abortion federalism is a fraud,” @AdamSerwer argues.

The mifespristone case proves that the abortion federalism promised by Dobbs was a lie. The goal was always to ban abortion everywhere, even if that means forcing pro choice states to enforce abortion bans passed by anti-choice states.
Critically important by @adamserwer.bsky.social.
I can't help but marvel at the super human effort put into forcing women to give birth and the total lack of any concern for children after they are born. The kids can die from lack of healthcare, hunger, measles, or polio. They don't care.

Current efforts to prevent abortion seekers from getting abortions in other states still target traveling, but they really target people getting abortion care via telecommunication channels (mostly online consultation + mail).
IMportant piece by @adamserwer.bsky.social on how anti-choice are trying to impose reproductive rights restrictions on pro-choice ones all while severing women from information, freedom of movement, and abortion-inducing drugs.

This is a Free Article about the right to receive an abortion drug in the mail:
"Although Louisiana v. FDA is ostensibly about a federal regulatory decision and the safety of an abortion drug, it is really about access to abortion."

“Those who oppose abortion are not satisfied with the Supreme Court’s ruling that it should be up to the states to decide abortion policy. They want a national ban. They’ve always wanted a national ban.”

Adam Serwer: "Although Louisiana v. FDA is ostensibly about a federal regulatory decision and the safety of an abortion drug, it is really about access to abortion. Louisiana even began its complaint with the declaration that 'the fight for life is far from over'” www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
@adamserwer.bsky.social writes about the abortion pill case: "Either anti-abortion states will get to impose their policies on pro-abortion-rights states, or they will have to live with their residents being able to access abortion care from providers elsewhere." www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

TL:DR - Louisiana is trying to use that goddam 19th century relic, the Comstock Act, to ban abortion drugs nationwide, and some of the members of the #ExtremeCourt appear poised to let them. 🤬🤬🤬

States Rights is- and always has been- bullshit. And I mean all the way back. The Dred Scott decision was the South saying the North didn't have the right, as states, to be slave-free.
Louisiana is to blame for the dismantling of The Voter’s Rights Act and will now be to blame for a national ban on women’s access to healthcare. #louisiana #klandry #RepubliKKKans #fightback
