"[F]ashion’s greenhouse gas emissions are rising, driven in part by the global production of polyester, an inexpensive petroleum-based synthetic that does not biodegrade. The industry’s annual greenhouse gas emissions have now reached an estimated gigaton..."

👔👗 Fashion’s Most Disgusting Product 💃👖
The fashion industry produces an estimated 100 billion garments & accessories a year & sells about 80bn. What happens to the other 20bn? “For brands, destroying or dumping items is cheaper & easier than storing, sorting, transporting, recycling or reselling…”
“[O]nly about 3 percent of the clothes sold in the United States are made domestically.”
Does anybody remember the TV commercial and song, “Look for the Union Label, when you are buying a coat, dress or blouse”? This article made me think about that.

Repurpose, reuse, recycle. These numbers are freaking insane
The logic of capitalism: discard and burn $millions worth of designer clothing, in a toxic cloud, rather than give away clothes to people who might need something to wear.

“… the $1.9 trillion industry that produces an estimated 100 billion garments and accessories a year. Rough estimates are that only about 80 billion of them actually sell.”
This IS "disgusting". Instead of idolizing everything about "fashion", women should boycott industry violators until something is done about the waste problem, which has been called out for over 50 yrs. Stop this ridiculous overpriced & polluting production!
Gift article. I had no idea that fashion contributed so much to GHG emissions. Also suggests the garment industry could save a lot of money by getting better at forecasting or made to order business models

Do we really need to buy that many new items of clothing? Clothing that is donated is often thrown away.
"American purchased 12 to 14 clothing items a year; by 2018, that number was 68."
NYT describes another example of unregulated Capitalism generating unregulated waste. With the only goal of generating as much profit as possible the fashion industry destroys/dumps billions of clothes each year. Waste on an epic scale! Disgusting!
