A lot of Landman was shot in Fort Worth. People like to cosplay rural because they don’t think of urban areas as “real America.” There’s nothing new about that.

Romanticized versions of rural cultural are not real. Just try to get healthcare at a rural hospital or find a job with benefits, and then get back to me on the “rural vibe shift.” Young people are leaving at record numbers for a reason.

I'm used to the New York Times publishing spectacularly unlettered, intellectually lazy pieces (always groaning with self-regard) about politics, or popular music, or television. But the hat trick achieved here might just be the paper's masterpiece.

YMMV but my sense is that a No. 1 song means a lot less in an atomized culture than it did 10 or 20 years ago.
