The Indiana Fever want a championship. Is their reputation around the WNBA in the way? (Gift Article)

Really good piece from @anniecostabile.bsky.social and Brian Hamilton on the state of the Indiana Fever, including their environment and how their fanbase treats both Fever players and their opponents: www.nytimes.com/athletic/770...

Perception vs. reality The Indiana Fever's pursuit of a WNBA title hinges on the franchise's ability to confront where those two things converge and the environment created as a result. ✍️: AC + @brianchamilton.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/770...

“Many agents believe the Fever’s failure to address problems is directly tied to (its) desire not to alienate fans and consequently hurt its bottom line. “It’s all about money,” one agent said. “they have to be careful what they say because the craziness that these fans bring, it also brings money.”

"One agent said clients regularly disable social media accounts before and immediately after games against the Fever because of the increase in toxic messages they say they receive." JFC

The problem described has already manifested itself for the Fever. They signed Mo Billings and Lexi Hull at 800k for 2 years. AB is locked in at $1.4 m for 4 years. If they offer Caitlin the EPiC they can’t afford to keep Kelsey, if they don’t, their fans will riot. www.nytimes.com/athletic/770...

Yes. Next question. www.nytimes.com/athletic/770...

This is a really good piece. It also feels like something that might not have been written had the Fever's GM not come out and made that absurd statement about players' complaints about harassment being a myth. www.nytimes.com/athletic/770...

This article in the Athletic today confirmed the unfortunate reality of the Fever organization in 2026. I’m heartened to see that changes appear underway with the resignation of Kelly Krauskopf and firing of Amber Cox. More changes are necessary.

As a Fever fan, all of this. The organization has to be better. (Also, CC isn't good enough to deal with this handicap) www.nytimes.com/athletic/770...
