The Real Culprit Behind High Grocery Prices - The Atlantic www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...
Neither the grocer nor the farmer makes much money...but the guys in the middle, now that's where the profiteering takes place
"From 2021 through the end of last year, grocery prices increased faster than both overall inflation and wages. Today, the cost of food is about 30 percent higher than it was in January 2020."

Want to know who's making the big bucks with these high grocery prices?
(Hint: It's not farmers & ranchers. It's not grocery stores) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...
"If the government decided to [use its buying power] on behalf of...consumers more broadly, the proposal’s authors argue, it could save the average family hundreds of dollars or more at the grocery store every year while costing taxpayers almost nothing." www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...
Actually, this is the wrong focus. It is not really the grocery chains nor the farmers making out (except in isolated instances). It is all the consolidated (oligopoly) middlemen food processors and distributors:

These culprits aren't new. They have always been the middlemen adding to production costs. We cannot negate the current impact of the #IranWar which has led to #HighGasPrices⛽📈.
