Opinion | The ‘Deep State’ Didn’t Take Nixon Down. Nixon Did. (Gift Article)

Here is a concise and important history lesson by @jillwine-banks.bsky.social and her fellow prosecutors on the facts of the Watergate scandal. Don’t let Trump and co rewrite history. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/28/o...

A reminder that Nixon's aides went to prison, and Nixon would have been impeached and removed from office if he hadn't resigned.

History lesson: As lawyers who helped conduct the Watergate investigation, we attest that Nixon, not some mythical “deep state,” was the cause of his own political demise and his henchmen who went to prison did so because of overwhelming evidence of their guilt. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/28/o...?

My dad co-wrote this New York Times op-ed: www.nytimes.com/2026/10/28/o... "As lawyers who helped conduct the Watergate investigation, we can attest that Nixon, not some mythical 'deep state,' was the cause of his own political demise..."

"The principal sources of this evidence were the testimonies of former members of Nixon’s staff and Oval Office recordings. Any suggestion that the former president and his aides got a raw deal or that Watergate was an anti-Nixon plot is nonsense." www.nytimes.com/2026/10/28/o...

Yeah, no, guys. He really was guilty. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/28/o...

"The Watergate investigations are not an example of injustice. They are, rather, an example of the rule of law being vindicated." www.nytimes.com/2026/10/28/o...

We investigated Watergate. The former president and his henchmen got what they deserved. The authors served on the Watergate Special Prosecution Force. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/28/o...

Nixon was fortunate not to have ended up in prison because Ford was a fucking buffoon who undermined the rule of law in this country with his imperial pardon of Nixon. Ford knew exactly what bullshit he was doing and did it anyway. Both of them can piss off to hell. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/28/o...

My pops (and others) wrote something for the NYT: www.nytimes.com/2026/10/28/o... Politely omitted from the piece is that it was necessitated by the NYT deciding, two weeks earlier, to recycle a 1997 National Review conspiracy theory about the Watergate cases. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/13/o...

Rep Riley Moore (R-WV) needs to listen to the prosecutors- Richard Nixon was not “framed”. Moore needs to be sent home on Election Day www.nytimes.com/2026/10/28/o...
