“Mass deportation doesn’t put America first; it puts vengeance first, and vengeance is a poor substitute for a moral and rational immigration policy.”

“So yes, grieve for Samuel Sey. Support due process for Samuel Sey. But don’t reserve your grief and support only for your ally — … and then act to bring this terrible chapter of American injustice to an end, a righteous end” www.nytimes.com/2026/10/29/o...
Not me sharing a David French column: "Support due process for Samuel Sey. But don’t reserve your grief and support only for your ally—extend it to every law-abiding person facing Trump’s brutal dragnet, and then act to bring this terrible chapter of American injustice to an end, a righteous end."
Great piece by @davidfrenchjag.bsky.social. I’m not suggesting that immigration laws be disregarded, but how we treat the strangers in our land is a moral decision. For Christians and Jews, the scriptures are clear: treat them with care, not disdain. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/29/o...
"christian" podcaster dude raising $35k in gofundme after being arrested by ICE but not before declaring on social media that "Christian ethics demand [deportations]" 😂
Leopards eating faces. What trash

David French inn the NYT tells a story about Samuel Sey. Here is one of the key quotes: “Mass deportation doesn’t put America first; it puts vengeance first, and vengeance is a poor substitute for a moral and rational immigration policy.”

Deport Immigrants? Oh Yes. But Not This Guy.
American immigration law is a mess. The system is overly complicated and often internally contradictory. But one thing is clear — the rule of law does not require mass deportation.
Darling of the Christian right, this Ghanian immigrant said "If you love America, you should support ICE," and called ICE "a force for justice."
He just got arrested by ICE.

"Sey, like hundreds of thousands of other immigrants in Trump’s America, has been caught in ICE’s dragnet. His family is confused, and his friends are distraught."

Leopards are eating his face. Forgive me schadenfreude, but I don’t really care, do you?

Deport Immigrants? Oh Yes. But Not This Guy.
Proof positive karma is a thing. Interesting how all the ICE cheerleaders are now saying this guy is different when really he’s just as harmless as most of those already deported.

"[Empathy] prevents us from having to endure injustice in order to care about injustice. If we wait for something terrible to happen to us or to our friends before we bother to care, then we can find ourselves passive or even complicit in the face of profound evil."
Ah yes I care now that it affects me or someone I support. Please please please can we just empathize w the people suffering that we don’t know!! Because one day the pain will come for us too

As an apostate Baptist, I challenged Ross Douthat about the toxicity of empathy when he came to Boulder a few years ago. WWJD?
Borders must be controlled, 🤝 , but economists will challenge you on this point (C.F. War on Drugs):

Samuel Sey praised ICE. After his arrest, Joel Berry, who once dismissed due process for undocumented immigrants, began fundraising for his family. David French welcomes that compassion and asks whether it reaches families outside the conservative spotlight. The question: consistency, not ridicule.
Good points and good thoughts:

Of course it’s another “leopards eating their own face” story. And I just don’t want to hear their arguments for “their” person who shouldn’t be treated this way. Argue for all people.
Please read and share.
