In poly-sci, we have terms for the corruption shown by Trump: Paternalistic or "Godfather" systems. They are neither fully democratic nor fully capitalistic.
They "turn the entanglements we used to regard as conflicts of interest into core operating principles."

"[T]he rise of the princelings is better understood as part of a new strain of American capitalism, one that turns the entanglements we used to regard as conflicts of interest into core operating principles..."
Also known as “sultanistic” oligarchies.

By contrast, today a Times op ed told us Trump's family business profiteering shouldn't be considered corruption but is "better understood as part of a new strain of American capitalism." The level of emphasis they give to trivial D sins while whitewashing epic corruption is simply discrediting.
funny how every once in a while @nytimes.com lets a little truth about donny shine thru
almost like ags, another princeling, is suddenly hedging his big bet on donny
